Does a divorce issued by the husband in a state of extreme anger that made him lose his awareness take effect?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If you pronounce a divorce to your wife while you are mentally incapacitated and unaware of what you are saying, then your divorce is not effective. However, if you are aware of what you are saying, then your divorce is effective, even if you are in a state of severe anger, "because he is held accountable in his state of anger." And if the divorce has not completed three pronouncements, you may take your wife back before the expiry of her iddah, either by words or by intercourse. Anger is the key to evil, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, advised against anger.
