What is the ruling on one who commits a sin, then is admonished and laughs?

We have reviewed your previous questions and it has become clear to us that you have a type of waswasah (whispers/obsessive thoughts) regarding the issue of mockery. We advise you to turn away from these waswasah, not pay attention to them, and not delve further into this matter.

Please refer to Fatwa No. 109383 to understand the nature of mockery that constitutes disbelief. There is no doubt that laughing at and ridiculing someone who forbids evil is a grave sin, and it is obligatory for a Muslim to accept sincere advice from those who offer it rightfully.

However, this laughter does not necessarily mean that the perpetrator of the sin is mocking the Shari'ah. He may laugh because he believes the act is permissible or for another reason. In conclusion, what we advise you to do is to abandon the waswasah in this matter.
