Is there a difference of opinion among scholars regarding a woman uncovering her face? And does following this view fall under the saying, "Whoever seeks out concessions has become a heretic"? And does the ruling on uncovering the face vary with different societies? And when was covering the face mandated? And did the wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, uncover their faces?

A scholar should favor the opinions that he finds more compelling, but he should not compel people to adopt his view as long as there is another opinion supported by legitimate Sharia (definition) evidence. The issue of the obligation to cover the face is a matter of dispute, and the preponderant opinion is that it is obligatory. An ordinary person is bound to act according to the fatwa (definition) of the scholars of his country regarding public matters. However, for private issues, there is no harm in him following any scholar qualified to issue fatwas. A woman uncovering her face harms others, so it must be denounced. Disputed issues are not all of the same degree; some allow for disagreement, while others do not. The hijab (definition) was mandated in the fifth year of the Hijra, and the Ummah unanimously agreed upon its obligation for the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
