ما هي الترجمة الموجزة للإمام الذهبي، وما الرأي في كتابه "كتاب الكبائر"؟
Al-Dhahabi is Imam, the Hafiz (memorizer of Quran and Hadith), the historian, Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Uthman ibn Qaymaz. He was born in the year 673 AH. His father was a goldsmith, hence he became known as Al-Dhahabi (the Golden). He possessed vast knowledge in Aqeedah (creed), Fiqh (jurisprudence), Hadith (prophetic traditions), Qira'at (recitations of the Quran), and Usul (principles of Islamic law) according to the methodology of the Salaf (pious predecessors). He was a leader in discerning what is lawful and unlawful, an Imam in Hadith and its sciences, a perceptive critic, an Imam in biographical accounts and history, strong in adherence to the Sunnah, and severe against the people of innovation. Among his most prominent teachers was Ibn Taymiyyah.
Among his most famous students was Al-Hafiz Imad al-Din Isma'il ibn Umar ibn Kathir. Scholars praised him; Ibn Nasir al-Din al-Dimashqi described him as "a marvel in criticizing men, a pillar in al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil (discrediting and validating narrators), knowledgeable in detailed rulings and foundational principles, an Imam in the recitations, and a jurist in theories." Ibn Kathir said about him, "With him, the Hadith sheikhs and memorizers concluded." Al-Suyuti said of him, "I drank Zamzam water so that I might reach Al-Dhahabi's rank in memorization."
He has many diverse works, including: "Mizan al-I'tidal," "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'," and "Tarikh al-Islam." He adhered to the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jama'ah (People of the Sunnah and the Community), and he has works on this topic, including: "Kitab al-Uluw" and "Kitab al-Arsh." He passed away in the year 748 AH. As for "Kitab al-Kaba'ir" (The Book of Major Sins) attributed to him, its attribution has been disputed by several contemporary scholars due to the abundance of fabricated and baseless hadiths within it. Muhyi al-Din Mustu found another version of it that is free from those hadiths, and this is the accepted version.
