Jamal al-Din al-Qasimi was a renewer and a prominent Damascene scholar in Tafsir (Quranic exegesis), Hadith (Prophetic traditions), Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), and language. He called for the rejection of fanaticism and blind imitation (taqlid), and for the purification of belief. He authored numerous works. His book "Maw'idhat al-Mu'minin" (Admonition for the Believers) is an abridgement of al-Ghazali's "Ihya' 'Ulum al-Din" (The Revival of the Religious Sciences), from which al-Qasimi removed what was criticized regarding al-Ghazali.
