Why is a Muslim woman forbidden from marrying a man of the the People of the Book, while a Muslim man is permitted to marry a woman of the People of the Book?

The wisdom behind prohibiting a Muslim woman from marrying a man of the People of the Book is encapsulated in the principle that Islam is supreme and nothing is supreme over it. The husband is the maintainer and protector of his wife, and this is not permissible for a disbeliever, as Allah Almighty says: "And never will Allah grant the disbelievers a way [to triumph] over the believers." Furthermore, there is a fear for the woman and children of being influenced by the religion of the disbelieving husband. As for the permissibility of a Muslim man marrying a woman from the People of the Book, this is because the maintainership belongs to the Muslim, and he might guide her. He is also responsible for raising the children Islamically. Moreover, the Muslim believes in her scripture and her prophet, which provides a basis for understanding, unlike the man of the People of the Book who does not believe in the Muslim woman's religion.
