The answer

The wedding feast (walima) is a (recommended practice) and not obligatory according to the majority of scholars. It is preferable for it to be with a sheep for those who can afford it, based on the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying to Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf: "Hold a feast, even if with a single sheep." It is permissible for the walima to be with any available food, such as hais (a dish made from dates, dried yogurt, and ghee), especially if the person is unable to afford a sheep. Indeed, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, held a feast for Safiyyah with hais.
