Is it permissible for a woman to uncover before an adopted male child (laqeet) after he reaches puberty, or does he become a stranger to her? And is it permissible for an adopted female child to uncover before a man after she reaches puberty?

Sponsoring an orphan carries immense reward, but it does not establish a relationship of mahramiyyah (prohibition of marriage) between the orphan and their sponsor. Therefore, a foreign orphan is treated as a foreigner upon reaching puberty. Seclusion with them is not permissible, nor is touching them by the one who raised them, and the hijab must be observed in their presence. However, if the orphan is breastfed by the wife five full feedings within the first two years of life, then the wife becomes his mother through suckling, and her husband becomes his father, and their children become his siblings.
