Peace be upon you. What is the ruling on the izar? May Allah reward you.

There is no harm in a man wearing an izar (waist-wrapper) unless it is made of silk, or is a garment of fame (thawb shuhra), or is worn with immoderate lengthening (isbal).

As for a woman, silk is not forbidden for her. She may lengthen her izar by a cubit below mid-calf. It is stipulated concerning her izar, when in front of non-mahrams, that it should not be an adornment in itself, nor tight so as to describe the body, nor transparent, nor perfumed, nor resembling the clothes of disbelievers or immoral women, nor a garment of fame, nor resembling men's attire.
