Who is the disbeliever eternally doomed to Hellfire? And will those who have never heard of Islam, or heard of it incorrectly or incompletely, or heard of it from other than the people of Sunnah, be eternally doomed to Hellfire? Is it true that Jews and Christians will not be eternally doomed to Hellfire unless they have known the true message of Islam? And what are the boundaries of this message that Muslims must convey?

The disbeliever is he who dies not upon the religion of Islam. As for one who never heard of Islam at all, or to whom the call reached in a distorted manner, he will be tested on the Day of Resurrection. But as for one who heard of Islam, he is obligated to research it. If he does not do so, while being able, then he is a disbeliever who will abide eternally in Hellfire, for Allah's proof has been established against him merely by the clear call reaching him. So, whoever heard mention of the Prophet, peace be upon him, it became obligatory for him to investigate his situation and believe in him. As for one who did not hear mention of him, peace be upon him, if he was a monotheist, then he is a believing survivor. If he was not a monotheist, then he will be tested by entering a fire on the Day of Resurrection. Allah does not punish anyone until He sends a messenger to him. And whoever heard mention of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and found no one in his land to inform him about Islam, he must travel to seek the truths. As for one to whom the message of Islam reached through other than the path of the People of the Sunnah, and he believed in what reached him, he is excused due to his ignorance and his distance from the lands of the Muslims, especially during periods of spiritual decline, where a person is rewarded for his little faith. However, if he finds someone who can guide him to the path of the People of the Sunnah and correct his error, he must follow him. The Jews and Christians will abide eternally in Hellfire. The limits of the correct message are what is mentioned in the Quran and the Sunnah, according to the understanding of the Salaf.
