Is Tarawih obligatory?

Tarawih prayer is a Sunnah and not obligatory. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, instituted it, and it is among the manifest rituals of Ramadan. This is supported by the Hadith of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him: "Whoever prays during the nights of Ramadan out of sincere faith and hoping for Allah’s reward, then all his past sins will be forgiven." And the Hadith of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her: "I feared that it would be made obligatory for you." And the Hadith of Abdur-Rahman ibn Abd Al-Qari regarding Umar's gathering the people behind a single reciter.
