What is the ruling on someone who says something, then says, "This is out of my ignorance," when it becomes clear that it was a mistake, not ignorance?
Error is forgiven. In Sahih Muslim, when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, recited: "Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or err," Allah said: "I have done so." And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Allah has overlooked for my Ummah (nation) their mistakes, their forgetfulness, and what they are compelled to do." And because of Allah Almighty's saying: "And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred, but [only for] what your hearts intended."
