What is the ruling on one who prays while carrying a bag on his back, on his shoulder, or around his waist?

There is no objection to praying while carrying a bag on the shoulder or back, as long as it is pure and contains nothing impure, and it does not prevent the worshiper from performing the pillars and obligations of prayer. It has been authentically reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed while carrying Umamah bint Zaynab. It is preferable for the worshiper to put the bag down if it distracts him, unless he fears losing it, in order to achieve humility in prayer.
