How can one balance between the love of Allah and the fear of Him, between having a good opinion of Him and a bad opinion of oneself, between desire and awe, and between believing that Allah is severe in punishment and that He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful?

It is possible to combine the love of Allah with the fear of Him, hope in Him, and good expectation of Him, through knowing Allah's blessings and attributes, reading the severe warnings for the disobedient, believing in Allah's promises to the obedient and the afflicted, and reflecting upon one's shortcomings in fulfilling Allah's rights. Faith also increases by performing acts of obedience and avoiding sins.
