Hadith is divided into two types: Prophetic (Nabawi) and Divine (Qudsi). The Prophetic Hadith is of three kinds: - Verbal (Qawli): Such as, "Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and hope for reward, his past sins will be forgiven." - Action-based (Fi'li): Such as the description of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) ablution. - Endorsing (Taqriri): Such as the Prophet's (peace be upon him) endorsement of 'Amr ibn al-'As for performing tayammum and leading people in prayer while in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity).

If Hadith is synonymous with Sunnah, then it includes a fourth type: the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) moral and physical characteristics, such as Aisha's (may Allah be pleased with her) description of his actions in his home.

As for the Divine Hadith (Hadith Qudsi): It is what the Prophet (peace be upon him) attributed to Allah the Almighty, such as, "Allah the Almighty said: 'I am as My servant thinks of Me, and I am with him when he remembers Me.'"
