Have the scholars discussed the issue of diminution mentioned in the Hadith: "Were I to give every human and jinn their requests, that would not decrease My dominion any more than a needle decreases the sea when it is dipped into it"? And what is the belief of the Salaf regarding Allah's dominion?

The noble Prophetic Hadith, narrated by Abu Dharr, clarifies that Allah's giving does not diminish, no matter how much He is asked, just as the sea does not diminish if a needle is dipped into it. Al-Tirmidhi added in his narration that the reason for this is that Allah is Generous (Jawwad), Self-Sufficient (Wajid), Glorious (Majid), who does what He wills, and His giving and command are by His word "Be, and it is."

Al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab explained that what is with Allah never diminishes, citing Allah’s saying: "What you have will be exhausted, and what is with Allah will remain." And that a needle does not diminish the sea, nor would it diminish if a bird drank from it. Al-Khidr used this as an example for Musa regarding the proportion of their knowledge to Allah's knowledge. This is because the sea is replenished by the waters of the world, and the food and fruits of Paradise do not diminish but return to their place. This clarifies the reason why what is with Allah does not diminish.
