Is it obligatory to donate to providers of free computer programs and services, to avoid them having a favor or obligation over the user?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
It is recommended, not obligatory, to recompense someone who has done you a favor or given you a gift. If you cannot find something to recompense them with, then supplicate for them. And it is recommended for the one to whom a gift is given to reward it. If he is unable, then he should mention it and praise its owner, saying: "May Allah reward you with good." And if you fear obligation from someone, then it is permissible for you not to accept the gift initially or to return it to cut off the obligation.
