Can a preference be made between Jihad and Ribat, and which of them is better in terms of reward if the need for both is equal? Is the martyr of Ribat like the martyr of battle? And does the deed of the Mujahid continue for him after martyrdom, just as the deed of the Murabit continues?

"Ribat" (guarding the frontiers) is a type of jihad, and the most virtuous among them. There is no difference between a martyr in it and others. It is hoped that the one who guards the frontier in the front line will attain the virtue of martyrdom if he is killed. Ibn Abi Shaybah mentioned that "whoever dies while guarding the frontier dies as a martyr." The reward for a martyr's deeds does not cease after death; rather, the reward for guarding the frontier continues for him until the Day of Resurrection, as stated in the hadith mentioned by Al-Sarakhsi and Ibn 'Abidin.
