The answer

Ribāt is to stay in a place between Muslims and disbelievers to guard the Muslims. Whoever stays in any place with the intention of repelling the enemy is a Murābiṭ (one who engages in Ribāṭ). Whoever stays in Al-Sham with the intention of Ribāṭ and Jihad will be rewarded. And whoever perseveres in the land of Jihad, sincerely seeking martyrdom, Allah will grant him the reward of martyrs, even if he dies on his bed. One who resides with this intention is safe from hypocrisy.
