Is a mother sinful for preferring her male children over her female children in treatment and financial giving, while resorting to her female children when she needs money? And is it obligatory to alert her to that, and how? And is the daughter sinful for refusing to impose her mother's requests on her husband?

The fatwa dictates the obligation of equal treatment between sons and daughters in gifts and grants, unless there is a need. As for expenses, equal treatment is not obligatory; rather, sufficiency is the consideration. If the mother favors the sons over the daughters in gifts without justification, she is sinful and must repent and equalize the gifts, either by giving the daughters the same amount she gave the sons or by reclaiming what she gave to the sons. If the mother insists on favoring the sons without justification, it is permissible to advise her to be just, but not obligatory, as the matter is subject to scholarly disagreement, while observing gentleness and courtesy in giving advice. There is no sin upon the daughter if she refrains from asking her husband at her mother's request, nor is there any sin upon her for disliking her mother due to the favoritism, as long as this dislike does not lead her to disobedience or neglect of her mother's rights. It is obligatory to strive to honor one's mother and treat her kindly.
