What is the ruling on one who walks with the funeral procession while being the killer?
Whoever intentionally kills an innocent soul, repentance is incumbent upon him, and he must surrender himself to the victim's guardians, so they may exact retribution from him, or pardon him for a bloodwit or other compensation. For repentance does not nullify duties and rights. As for whoever kills a soul by mistake, he must offer expiation by freeing a believing slave; if he cannot find one, then by fasting for two consecutive months, and his kin are liable for the bloodwit.
