Is it permissible to pay a monetary fidyah instead of making up for missed days of fasting from Ramadan, due to the inability to fast because of irritable bowel syndrome and acidic secretions?

If a fasting person is unable to make up for missed fasts due to an illness from which recovery is hoped, then he must delay making up the fasts until he recovers, and feeding the poor does not suffice him. However, if the illness is chronic and there is no hope of recovery from it, then he must feed one poor person for each day. The majority of jurists do not permit giving money instead of feeding, although Abu Hanifa holds that it is permissible. The amount to be fed is one mudd of food for each day, which is approximately 750 grams.
