Is it incumbent upon a sick person who broke their fast in Ramadan for two consecutive years due to a chronic illness and paid the Fidyah, then recovered, to make up the fast, or is the Fidyah they paid sufficient?

Scholars have differed concerning one who broke their fast due to an illness from which recovery was not expected, and fed a poor person for each day, then recovered. Does the feeding suffice, or is قضية (making up the fast) obligatory upon them? Some have held that the obligation is discharged by the feeding, while others have maintained that قضية is obligatory because the feeding was a substitute for despair, and that despair has ceased with recovery. As a precaution, if one were to make up the fast after recovery, that would be more cautious and better for discharging the obligation.
