Is it permissible to marry someone who was wrongfully imprisoned and whose innocence the girl has verified?

Whoever commits a sin and repents from it, Allah accepts his repentance and erases his sin, and he becomes like one who has no sin, according to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "The one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin."

Therefore, the penitent should be viewed with this perspective, and if he proposes to a girl and is a man of religion and character, he should be accepted, in accordance with the Prophet's saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "If there comes to you one whose religion and character you approve, then marry him. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption."

This applies whether his imprisonment was due to a sin he committed or an injustice. As for one whose religion and character are not approved, he is not recommended, and if his transgression or bad character might harm the woman, it is not permissible to marry him. One should pause and weigh the benefits against the harms when marrying a prisoner whose release date is unknown, as this could lead to the loss of some benefits.
