What is the ruling on abandoning prayer due to a father's lack of interest in religious matters, and what books or audio lectures can be beneficial at this age?
Your father's shortcomings do not justify neglecting prayers, for every soul is accountable for its deeds. Abandoning prayer is among the gravest and most destructive sins. Beware of Allah's wrath and punishment, and strive to obey Him. A young person who grows up in the worship of his Lord may be among the seven whom Allah will shade with His shade. A servant will be questioned about his youth on the Day of Judgment. Therefore, fear Allah concerning your prayers and your youth, hasten to perform prayers on time, maintain them in the congregational mosque, seek righteous company that will assist you in good deeds, and be an aid to your father in steadfastness. It is recommended to listen to the lecture "Why Don't You Pray?" by Sheikh Muhammad Hussein Yacoub, and to read the book "Why Do We Pray?" by Sheikh Muhammad Ismail Al-Muqaddim.
