What is the Zahiri method, why has it not been called for, and is it in accordance with the Sunnah?

The Zahiri method adheres to taking the literal meaning of texts without considering reasoning or analogical deduction (Qiyas). They do not look into the underlying causes (ilal) or meanings. Although their view is better than that of the proponents of mere opinion (Ahl al-Ra'y al-Mujarrad), they are criticized for their rigidity in adhering to the literal meaning and for not considering the underlying causes and the wisdoms intended by the Lawgiver (Shari').
