Is it permissible for a Muslim to own "that which his right hand possesses"?

Allah Almighty permitted a man to have sexual intercourse with his female slave (ma malakat aymanuh), as stated in the Holy Quran: (And those who guard their private parts Except from their wives or what their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed). The reason for this permissibility is that the female slave is included in his ownership, either through purchase or captivity. The reason for enslavement is disbelief and warring against Allah and His Messenger. If Allah enables Muslims to overpower disbelievers, they become their property through captivity, unless the Imam chooses to grant them release or ransom.

However, if the slave embraces Islam after being owned, their right to be freed from slavery by embracing Islam is preceded by the right of the mujahid (fighter) who acquired ownership before their Islam. It is not just to abrogate an earlier right with a later right. Nevertheless, it is recommended for the owner to free his slave if they embrace Islam, and the Lawgiver has encouraged this and opened many doors for it. Islam has restricted the sources of slavery to war captives from disbelievers and their offspring, with a warning against the establishment of slavery in the current era.
