Can a deviant Muslim be a guardian (wali) in marriage for his sound-in-faith daughter?

For the validity of the marriage guardianship (wilayat al-nikah), there are agreed-upon conditions: Islam, sanity, puberty, and masculinity. There are also conditions over which there is disagreement, including: freedom and apparent righteousness. The guardian who does not believe in the Sunnah must be discussed and his misconception removed. If he insists, his guardianship is revoked and given to the woman’s closest Muslim guardian.
