Is it permissible for a girl to marry without the permission of her guardian if her father rejects the suitor due to his physical disability, while her elder brother approves, and she wishes to marry him, with the intention of pleasing her father later?

If a woman desires to marry a man who is her equal, her guardian has no right to prevent her. If he does so, he is deemed to be 'adhal (unjustly preventing marriage). In such a case, the right of guardianship transfers to the next closest guardian or to the ruler (Sultan). However, if there is an acceptable reason for the prevention, it is not considered 'adhal. The woman is advised to try to reach an understanding with her father or to seek mediation from someone who can speak to him. If this is not possible, and she fears harm, she has the right to refer the matter to the judiciary to consider the case of 'adhal.
