What is the ruling on a wife who does not return to her husband's home because her parents prevent her, and what is the ruling on the parents' action, and what should the husband do?

Marital disputes cannot be resolved by a fatwa from afar; rather, they should be referred to the judiciary, or to someone mutually agreed upon by the spouses to arbitrate between them. In general: 1. It is not permissible for the wife to refuse to return to her husband's house without a valid excuse; otherwise, she would be disobedient (nashiz) and sinful. 2. It is not permissible for the wife's parents to prevent her from returning to her husband or to corrupt her against him, as this is among the gravest of forbidden acts. 3. It is not permissible for the wife to obey her parents in disobeying or separating from her husband; for the husband's right takes precedence, and her obedience to him in what is good is more obligatory than obeying her parents. She is not permitted to leave his house without his permission. 4. The husband has the right to prevent his wife from visiting her family, and to prevent them from visiting her in his house, if such visits lead to her corruption.

We advise sitting with the wife and clarifying the obligation for her to return. If she does not return, go to her family to ascertain the reason for their obstruction. If no understanding is reached, some wise individuals should mediate to reconcile between the two parties.
