Will a person who died a non-Muslim be forgiven, knowing that they accepted and believed in Islam but did not convert to it before their death, or are they still considered among the disbelievers?

One who does not pronounce the two declarations of faith (Shahadatayn) is not considered a Muslim, even if he admires Islam, like Abu Talib, the uncle of the Prophet, peace be upon him, who died an unbeliever despite defending the Prophet and acknowledging the merit of Islam. Therefore, whoever dies without pronouncing the two declarations of faith is treated like unbelievers in terms of supplication and burial. As for one who embraces Islam with certainty and pronounces the two declarations of faith, he is a Muslim even if he does not officially register or publicize his conversion, and he is hoped to attain Paradise and mercy upon his death.
