Is it considered a mistake on Al-Bukhari's part that he narrated from Ikrimah, despite leading imams having disbelieved him, and that he did not narrate from Al-Zuhri in the hadith of the Prophet's — may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him — attempted suicide, even though he knew that Al-Zuhri's reports are not accepted?

The two issues mentioned are not errors. The imams of Hadith, including Ahmad, Ibn Ma'in, An-Nasa'i, and Abu Hatim, authenticated Ikrimah and used his narrations as proof. The general consensus of scholars is to use his hadith as evidence. As for the addition in the hadith of the beginning of revelation, Al-Bukhari and others reported it to draw attention to its contradiction with what is authentically reported in the hadith. He did not mention it in the chapter on the beginning of revelation or interpretation, but rather in the chapter on interpreting dreams (at-ta'bir).
