What must I do to compensate for a donation I took to cover a deficit in a Quran memorization center five years ago? And do I bear sin or require expiation?

The treasurer must cover the deficit from his own money if he was negligent or exceeded his authority; otherwise, he is not obliged to do so. Those in charge of charitable works are agents for the donors, and they must act according to the donor's intention. If the deficit was due to negligence or exceeding authority, the amount must be returned from one's own money, along with repentance. However, if there was no negligence, the donation should be spent on the specific work intended by the donor. Otherwise, a similar amount should be returned and spent on that work. If the donation was intended to benefit the center in any way, it is permissible to use it to cover the deficit. The donor's reward is preserved according to her intention, even if the money does not reach the intended beneficiary.
