What is the ruling on visiting zoos for the purpose of enjoying their various forms and seeing their sights?

Visiting zoos is permissible, rather, it is recommended and desirable if the intention behind it is to contemplate God’s creation and reflect on His signs, which deepens faith in God’s sublime attributes. This is evident in the Qur’an’s call to reflect on the greatness of the universe and its creatures, as stated in His Almighty’s saying: (Have they not looked into the dominion of the heavens and the earth and everything God has created..), and the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: (Reflect on the bounties of God, and do not reflect on God Almighty).

Nevertheless, attention must be paid to the objectionable matters present in these gardens, such as mixing between genders and some types of inappropriate female attire. Therefore, da'wah (Islamic propagation) programs should be prepared to achieve enjoining good and forbidding evil. If reform is not possible, a Muslim should choose the appropriate time for the visit or avoid these places if they lead to seeing what harms religion.
