The answer

Lying is dangerous and is a characteristic of hypocrites. It leads to damnation and entry into Hellfire. To rid oneself of it, a servant must strive against his own self, and his family must remind him of its warnings and encourage him to read books of spiritual refinement. They should also remind him of Allah's constant watchfulness and the importance of guarding the tongue, and that lying leads to the loss of people's trust and Allah's wrath, and deprives its perpetrator of sustenance.
