After making numerous covenants with God to abandon a specific sin, and breaking these covenants sixteen times, including one covenant where I asked to enter Hellfire and abide therein, and another where I requested that my repentance not be accepted if I broke the covenant; what should I do for God to forgive me? And do I have to enter Hellfire for not fulfilling the first covenant? And how can repentance be achieved with a hardened heart and a lack of remorse, despite abandoning the sin and resolving not to return to it?

Covenants are treated like vows and oaths, so if you break them, expiation becomes obligatory. What was attached to the covenant, such as invoking hellfire upon oneself or the non-acceptance of repentance, is a great mistake that necessitates repentance. What is hoped for from Allah's grace is forgiveness and pardon. According to the Hanbalis, you are only required to perform one expiation due to the intertwining of covenants. However, according to the majority of scholars, an expiation is required for each oath or vow that you have broken. It appears that you are regretful for what has transpired from you, and you must achieve true remorse as explained in Fatwa no. 107223.
