Backbiting is Haram (forbidden) by consensus, and it is one of the major sins. This is indicated by verses and Hadiths, among them the Almighty's saying: "And do not backbite each other." And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, among the major sins is for a man to unjustly violate the honor of a Muslim man." This prohibition is general and includes a father who backbites his son. Therefore, the father should be advised kindly.
