How can one get rid of watching forbidden movies and the consequences thereof, such as abandoning acts of worship, lack of self-confidence, and mistreating others, knowing that there have been numerous unsuccessful attempts to quit?
It is recommended to strive against the self (nafs), desires (hawa), and Satan, and to repent from watching obscene films and other forbidden acts, because "the one who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin." Young people are advised to marry if they are able, as it is more lowering of the gaze and more safeguarding of the private parts. For whoever is not able, then upon him is fasting, for it will be a shield for him. Watching obscene films leads to sins and lack of success. Therefore, one must continue to strive against the self to abandon them with a strong will and firm resolve, while avoiding exposure to anything that incites the desire to watch them. This will is strengthened by feeling the constant awareness of Allah Almighty, who will question His servant about his life and youth and how he spent and wore them out. The difficulty in abandoning these forbidden things becomes easy by seeking Allah's help and continuing in the struggle.
