The hunting tool must be sharp, cause blood to flow, and strike the game with its sharp edge; otherwise, the game is not permissible to eat except by ritual slaughter (tazkiyah). The tool is of two types: an inanimate object or an animal. As for the inanimate object, it must have a sharp edge or a pointed tip suitable for cutting or piercing. Tools that kill by blunt force, such as an unsharpened stone, a stick without a pointed end, or an arrow striking with its broad side, are not permissible for hunting, and whatever is killed by them is not lawful except through ritual slaughter. Similarly, if a sharp tool strikes with its unsharpened broad side, the hunted animal is not permissible except through ritual slaughter.
