What is the religious ruling on a husband forcing his wife to stay in his parents' home, while she wishes to live with him in a separate house?

The wife is not obligated to live with her husband's family. She has the right to an independent dwelling where she feels safe. If the wife's family is in the same country, her staying with them during her husband's absence might be better for her.
