What is the ruling on using alcohol or perfumes that contain more than 60% alcohol for protection against the coronavirus, and what is its effect on prayer, and does the garment become purified from it after it evaporates?

According to the majority of scholars, Khamr (wine/alcohol) is ritually impure with a tangible, sensory impurity. Others, however, hold that its impurity is spiritual, not sensory, and that it is ritually pure. Alcohol produced through industrial processes is a matter of dispute. Some consider it pure because it is a toxic substance not intended for consumption, is found in foods, and evaporates quickly. Many scholars, including Muhammad Rashid Rida and Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, have affirmed the ritual purity of alcohol, considering it a purifying agent rather than an impure one, and stating that its prohibition is only for drinking if it is intoxicating. It is permissible to use alcohol as an external antiseptic for wounds and in medicines and creams.
