What is the ruling on a wife who wronged her husband many years ago and has repented with sincere repentance, while her husband swears an oath of divorce upon her regarding whether she betrayed him, and she denies it?
Whoever commits a sin and then repents sincerely, Allah will pardon him by His grace and mercy. Allah the Almighty said: "Allah accepts only the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and then repent soon after. It is those to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness, and Allah is ever All-Knower, All-Wise." If the wife repents and abandons her sins, we hope that Allah will accept her repentance. She must conceal herself and not inform anyone of what she has done. However, if the husband conditioned her divorce upon her action, and she committed what he conditioned, then she is divorced. She must inform her husband in general terms, without detailing, that what he swore upon has occurred, and that she has repented from it. He has the choice; if he wishes, he may keep her - if his right of return is established - and if he wishes, he may divorce her.
