It is not possible to determine an exact percentage of what was revealed in Mecca from the Qur'an due to scholarly differences in defining Meccan and Medinan surahs and their number. However, the majority view is that the number of Meccan surahs is greater, and the revelation in Mecca continued for 13 years out of a total of 23 years. It is said that the Meccan surahs number 83 or 85 out of a total of 114 surahs.
