Will the repentance of one who abandoned prayer, scoffed, and committed other acts of disbelief be accepted for all of his disbelief? And will the prayer of one who finds no remorse be accepted, or does he remain a disbeliever due to the absence of the condition of remorse?

If a servant commits an act of disbelief (kufr), such as mockery, and then repents, Allah accepts his repentance, no matter how grave his sin or how varied his acts of disbelief, provided that the repentance fulfills its conditions. The one repenting must be mindful of the gravity of his sin and regret it, for regret is the essence of repentance. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Regret is repentance." Regret for a sin motivates its owner to sincere repentance and to abandoning sins in the future. Whoever finds this degree of regret within himself is repentant, and he must continue his worship and strive to perform good deeds to expiate his bad ones, and he must trust in the vastness of Allah's forgiveness. If he is not regretful, then he must ponder the danger of his sin and the magnitude of Allah's punishment to instill in his heart the regret that actualizes sincere repentance.
