Does Allah accept the repentance of one who has sinned repeatedly, then repented and done righteous deeds, and will Allah forgive him?
Abandoning prayer is one of the gravest sins after shirk (associating partners with Allah), and some scholars consider its abandonment to be major disbelief (kufr akbar). Persistence in a major sin necessitates punishment. One must hasten to sincere repentance, abandon forbidden acts, and resolve never to return to them. For whoever repents, Allah will accept his repentance, and Allah transforms the evil deeds of the penitent into good deeds, in accordance with His saying: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by committing sins], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'"
