Will my sister be sinful for delaying the making up of her fasting for two Ramadans due to scrupulosity, or will she not be sinful because she did not intentionally delay it?
Whoever misses days of fasting in must make them up before the advent of the next Ramadan. For someone with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), there are two situations regarding delaying the making up of fasts:
First: If the OCD reaches a degree of excessive hardship beyond what is normal, such that the patient needs medication during the day or is afflicted by obsessions that prevent them from fasting, then delaying the making up of the fast is permissible for them to alleviate the hardship.
Second: If the OCD does not increase the hardship of fasting beyond the normal limit, and they are not harmed by it, then this situation does not permit delaying the making up of the fast. Rather, they must hasten to make it up and repent.
If the delay is due to a legitimate concession, there is no expiation (). If it is not due to a concession, then they must make up the fast, and expiation becomes obligatory if they delay making up the fast without a valid excuse until the next Ramadan begins.
