What is the شرع (Islamic law) ruling regarding a wife remaining with a husband who: is characterized by bad manners such as cursing and swearing, does not maintain prayer, watches and brings home pornographic films and magazines, hits his wife with dishes and threatens her regarding intercourse, has many debts, spends his time watching television or with bad companions or sleeping, works in transporting prostitutes, dances to loud music, leaves his wife to walk long distances to run errands, intentionally breaks the phone, brings his non-mahram friends into the house and leaves them with his wife, and has tried to house one of them in the home to save money, and does not fulfill his promises to change his behavior, and practices backbiting, lying, and deception, and has left his wife and son in the street without shelter?
A husband who disobeys his Lord, neglects prayer, consumes intoxicants, abuses his wife with insults and curses, and denies her rights to maintenance and a separate dwelling, and allows his friends to intrude upon her, is a husband with whom there is no good in remaining. We advise you to seek a divorce, and if he refuses, then take the matter to court to compel him to divorce you or to remove the harm from you, with the obligation that he must return to you all the money he took from you and your family.
