What is the ruling on trimming or cauterizing the horns of goats when they are young?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Islam is a religion of mercy and benevolence, and this includes showing kindness to animals. Therefore, it is not permissible to torture them by cutting their horns or ears, or branding them without necessity. Indeed, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed whoever branded a donkey on its face. However, it is permissible when there is a need, such as for treatment, or to indicate that they are sacrificial animals (hady), as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did with al-Ish'ar (marking sacrificial animals).
