Is it permissible, in Islamic law, to sever the leg nerves of a ferocious calf or the nerves located behind its horns (the nuchal ligament) with the aim of controlling it in cases of extreme necessity?

Cutting off some parts of an animal that has life in it before slaughtering it is forbidden, due to the torture it inflicts upon the animal. Some scholars disliked the practice of 'arqabah (hamstringing). There is no difference between 'arqabah and 'anfajah (cutting the foreleg) as long as it does not lead to inflicting a fatal wound. This applies when the animal is not intractable. However, if the animal is intractable and wild, then it is permissible to do so.
