Repentance to Allah from sins is obligatory upon everyone. It is not merely a matter of remembrance (dhikr) or supplications (du'a), but rather it requires three conditions: abstaining from the sin, regretting having committed it, and resolving not to return to it. As for acts of remembrance and supplications, they are expressions of repentance. Among them are: saying "None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and all praise, and He is over all things competent" one hundred times, and "Glorified is Allah and praised is He" one hundred times, and the master of seeking forgiveness (Sayyid al-Istighfar): "O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You..."
